Bru’s Wiffle: A Waffle Joint
Santa Monica, CA
This gem is incredible. Tucked away in the off-streets of Santa Monica, you’ll likely find a line outside the doors of this restaurant no matter what day or time you go. It’s that good, and it’s worth the line. My recommendation: Start off with freshly squeezed Strawberry Lemonade, order breakfast veggies and potatoes as a starter, then make your main course either their famous Chicken and Waffles or any of their Waffle Scrambles. Everything on the menu is out of this world. An awesome bonus? They make everything from scratch on site upon order. No frozen, pre-made food here- Big up, big up.
Santa Monica/Malibu/Sherman Oaks, CA
This is a small little So-Cal chain restaurant, but it’s a great place to grab a casual lunch. The restaurant itself has a very laid back and welcoming vibe to it, and many people whip out their laptops and work as they eat. The location I ate at was tucked away in a little strip in Malibu. It felt very quaint and quiet despite being in the thick of the Pacific Coast rumble. I ordered the BLTA Sandwich with fries, and they were incredible. I don’t know where they get their avocado from, but it was one of the best I’ve had. This is definitely a place to head back to.
Umami Burger & Craft Beers
Burbank/Hollywood/Santa Monica/Pasadena, CA
Umami Burger is a Japanese Style eatery scattered around California. I hadn’t heard of it prior to my latest trip out there, but it was genuinely a really neat find. They create their own sauces and flavors, and everything has a very unique, but pleasant taste to it. I love it. I think this goes without saying, but order any of their burgers and be sure to get a side order of any of their options for fries. Don’t skip out on their house-made sauces either. Everything here has a very unorthodox taste, but in the best way possible.
I hope you enjoy this helpful little guide to casual eating in avery not-so-casual city.
